Records show that a Town Club was formed at a meeting held in The Griffin Inn in 1875. There was a team competing in the Northants (now United Counties) League in the 1890's and in 1895 the team were runners up in the Northants F.A. Junior Cup.
The club's golden age was however in the 1920's. In 1920-21 the club joined the Wellingborough and District League and were winners of the NFA Junior Cup. Gaining promotion to the Northants League which was won at the first attempt together with the NFA Senior Cup. The league title was retained the following season and the County F.A.'s premier competition, the Maunsell Cup was also won, a unique cup treble unlikely ever again to be repeated. That same season also saw the club draw 4-4 at Football League Third Division North side Chesterfield in the F.A. Cup only to lose 1-0 at home in the replay. The club were the highest goalscorers in the competition that season.
In 1923-24 and 1927-27 the club were runners up in the league and in 1931 and 1933 were Senior Cup runners up. In 1934 the Maunsell Cup was won for the second time and until 2009 the last occasion that a United Counties League side had held the trophy.
On the resumption of league football in 1946 the club played in the Rushden And District League, rejoining the UCL in 1950.Between then and 1997 the club were runners up on seven occasions before finally winning the league in 1997-98 but were runners up once again in 1998-99. In 1994-95 the NFA Junior Cup was won for the second time and the reserves gained promotion for the first time. The first team were runners up in the Division 2 Knock out Cup in 1954 whilst the reserves won the Division 3 K O Cup in 1980. Since the competition was revamped to include all first teams the club have twice reached the semi-final. In 1998 the club were runners up in the Benevolent Cup.
At the end of the 2006-07 season the club merged with Rushden Rangers to form Rushden and Higham United, moving to the Rushden Rangers ground in Hayden Road Rushden. With aid from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund the ground was updated to enable the club to play in the United Counties League.
