Yaxley’s good run of results continued with a fifth consecutive league victory although there was an element of good fortune about both of their goals. The first came after 24 minutes. A Dan Cotton free kick from the left-hand touchline didn’t appear to be likely to threaten the Newport Pagnell goal but it took a deflection and found its way past the wrong-footed goalkeeper Mark Osborn. Subsequently both sides played some nice football but goal threats were rare. Despite Newport pushing hard for an equaliser in the closing stages it was Yaxley who found the net again. Deep into added time Osborn advanced up the pitch to add firepower to a last gasp corner. However the ball was cleared to Liam Hook. With Osborn now stranded in mid pitch Hook had the easy task of putting the ball into the back of an empty net.
