The origins of our football club go back to the late 1950’s. Swallownest Miners Welfare FC competed in the Yorkshire League at both Division 2 and Division 1 levels. The Miners Welfare team were promoted in the 61/62 season, simultaneously achieving a remarkable run to the 4th Round of the FA Amateur Cup that same season. After suffering a relegation, Swallownest Miners Welfare were again promoted in the 68/69 season. The old club sadly folded in the mid 1970’s.
The new incarnation of the football club began life as Aston FC in 2006. The club saw a rapid rise with four successive promotions through two divisions of the South Yorkshire Amateur League, plus were League Cup runners up in the 07/08 season, and then the club saw two more successive promotions in the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior League, to reach the S & HCSL Premier Division by 2010.
The first season in the S & HCSL Premier Division saw the club move to the Miners Welfare Ground (now The Swall-Siro Stadium) and adopt the name Swallownest Miners Welfare FC re-establishing the link with the old Miners Welfare football club. Swallownest MW won the S & HCSL Premier Division title at the first attempt in 2010/11.
At the end of the 2015/16 season the club’s name was changed to Swallownest FC, and the team finished just outside of the promotion places. ,
The following season Swallownest became Champions again of the S & HCSL, for the second time. This time Swallownest secured promotion to the Northern Counties East League after significant stadium development works were undertaken, to allow the club to meet the ground grading requirements to attain the step up.
Swallownest FC went on their longest run yet in NCEL League Cup during the 2018/19 season, finally going out to Premier Division team, Liversedge FC in the Semi-Final. The following season saw Swallownest attain their highest ever league finish, reaching 9th place in the NCEL Division 1.
The 2020/21 season was almost completely wiped out by the COVID 19 Pandemic. When football returned, Swallownest FC were under the stewardship of the young management duo of, Alex Nightingale and assistant Daniel Archbould.
The young management duo went into the season with a very young squad. This team rallied remarkably in the second half of the season, to narrowly avoid relegation against all the odds.
The 2022/23 saw Daniel Archbould promoted to Interim Manager in the closing weeks of the season, and was charged with avoidhttps://theucl.co.uk/wp-admin/post.php?post=11726&action=edit#ing relegation. He performed remarkably well in turning the club’s fortunes around, and in again helping to lead the club to safety, earning himself the Manager’s hot seat on a permanent basis. Daniel Archbould stepped down just a little less than half way into the 23/24 season with Jamie Housley appointed the new first team manager.
The 25/26 season saw us embark on a new era y in the United Counties League where we have settled well and are looking forward to the ups and downs of the 26/27 season
