Clipstone Combine was established in 1928 playing at a ground near Mansfield Road in Clipstone starting life in the Colliery Alliance League providing young miners with an opportunity to play fellow local miners at football on Saturday’s. The club was later renamed Clipstone Boys Brigade moving to play their home games at Baulker Lane before becoming Clipstone Welfare eventually moving to their current home The Lido Ground where they started playing in the Mansfield & District League. The Lido Ground currently has a capacity of 700, of which 100 is covered seating and 200 is covered standing. The club later joined the Sutton & Skegby League and then the Nottingham Spartan League where they achieved the treble by winning in 1955/56 the league title, the League Cup and the Notts Intermediate Cup. Clipstone Welfare then subsequently joined the Notts Alliance League, winning both the Senior Division and the League Cup in three successive seasons between 1972/73 and 1974/75. In the season 1985/86 the club won the Notts Senior Cup and then won back-to-back league titles in 1992/93 and 1993/94 also winning the League Cup and the Notts Senior Cup in the latter season. The club was promoted up to the Premier Division of the Central Midlands League in 1993/94 and won the division at the first attempt but were denied promotion due to their ground failing to meet league requirements. After winning Division One again in 1996/97 and having made the necessary ground improvements the club were promoted to the Supreme Division. In 2006/07 the club won the Central Midlands League Floodlit Cup beating Barton Town Old Boys 3-1 in the final. The club remained in the Supreme Division until league reorganisation in 2011 saw them placed in the Northern Division. After a fourth place finish in the North Division in 2011/12 Clipstone Welfare were promoted into Division One of the Northern Counties East League and Step 6 football for the first time in its history. The club adopted its current name Clipstone FC in 2013 and were Division One champions in 2014/15 under the stewardship of manager Chris Millington and Chairman Brett Marshall earning promotion to the Northern Counties East Premier Division and Step 5 football for the first time ever. The club however struggled to adapt and finished bottom of the Premier Division in 2017/18 and were relegated back down to the step 6 East Midlands Counties League after a reshuffle of the football pyramid. At the end of the 2020/21 season the East Midlands Counties League was dissolved and the club were transferred sideways to Division One of the Northern Counties East Division One. After finishing the season 2021/22 second from bottom of the league the club was transferred again after a further reshuffle of the football pyramid to the United Counties Division One for the 2022/23 season. The season got off to a bad start and after only 6 games in the new league manager Dave Hoole resigned his position at the club. Locals to the village Ian Cotton & Ian Birtley along with Coach Josh Parker took over the team in September 2022 revamping the squad and led the club to a respectable 7th place finish. In the 2023/24 & 2024/25 seasons , Ian Cotton led the club, to a place in the play-offs in both seasons , however , was unable to make the progression to step 5 Football for the club. For the 2025/26 Season Richard Hannigan has taken the helm after working with several step 6 teams over the previous years. For the 26/27 season we are delighted to announce that Ian Cotton has returned back to the club, alongside Jobe Shaw and Gaz Curtis.
