FUTURE LIONS UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE-PREMIER DIVISION
Pinchbeck United went top of the Premier Division with a thumping 6-0 win over Whitworth in Spalding with debutant Ewan Fieldhouse scoring a first-half hat-trick as they went into the break five-up. The loanee from Yaxley opened the scoring when he got a touch to Oli Maltby’s shot on after just three minutes after Nick Bishop’s back-heel had created the chance, then Josh Smith made it two when he finished at the far post from Liam Ogden’s right-wing cross on 31. Maltby added the third with a low drive from a couple of yards outside the box on 27 and Fieldhouse netted his second four minutes later, finishing at the near post after Ogden had taken Jason Field’s sweeping ball on the right before playing it into the box. Fieldhouse completed his hat-trick right on half-time with a tap-in after Adam Honour had saved Nick Bishop’s shot. The second half was a quiet one on comparison with Whitworth having more of the play, but their afternoon was summed up when Dean Hall’s penalty hit the bar and The Knights finally made it six on 88 minutes when Ogden netted at the second attempt.
Pinchbeck now have the only unbeaten tag in the division after Daventry Town went down 1-2 at home to fellow title challengers Eynesbury Rovers. Craig Smith gave the visitors the lead five minutes in, but the overnight leaders drew level on the stroke of half time when Phil Cassidy headed in from a yard out after Adam Confue’s header had hit the bar. It didn’t remain level for long though as Eynesbury started the second half as they had done the first and went back in front when Callum Milne hit a thirty-yarder that went in off the bar and that fittingly proved to be the winner.
Holbeach United are third following their 2-0 success at Desborough Town. Both goals came in the first half with Will Bird opening the scoring with a neat finish after Billy Smith had split the defence with his through ball, then Smith was again the creator as Johnny Clay met his far post corner with a great finish.
The result of the day has to be at in-form Peterborough Northern Star where they crashed 2-6 to ON Chenecks. The Northampton side took an 8th minute lead through Joe Lewington’s header and Brandon Williams added a second within a minute with a low drive. Jake Nagy, returning after a very brief spell at Newport Pagnell, added another on 22, but Jake Sansby reduced the arrears two minutes later from the penalty spot. Any hopes of a comeback were ended late in the first half though as Dan Quigley joined the scorers on 39 and Williams got his second on 45. Matty Reeve made it six for Chenecks ten minutes into the second half and it appears that Sansby got a second sometime after that for PNS, but the home side actually had the final score as 1-6 on their Twitter account, but Chenecks quote 2-6.
Rugby Town cruised to a 4-0 win at home to Newport Pagnell Town with two goals in each half. Romario Martin opened the scoring when he turned and fired home from twenty-yards and Lewis Rankin doubled their lead with a curling shot over the keeper from the edge of the box. Danico Johnson joined in when he finished after a powerful run and sub Charlie Evans rounded things off with a shot into the top corner and secure a comfortable win for The Valley.
Sleaford Town got back to winning ways with a 3-0 victory at home to bottom club Rothwell Corinthians. Archie Moyses and George Couzens combined to give Harry Millard the chance to open the scoring on 51 minutes and he added his second on 74 with Couzens again the supplier. Millard then turned assistant as he set up Scott Coupland for his first goal since returning to the club.
Leicester Nirvana picked up only their second win of the season as they saw off Cogenhoe United at Hamilton Park. A Jordan Smith penalty just before the half-hour gave them the half time lead and an explosive finish from the impressive Sam Burton made it 2-0 nine minutes into the second period. Cooks leading scorer Ryan Dove reduced the arrears from eight yards out a minute past the hour but they couldn’t find another and Nirvana took the points 2-1.
Harborough Town picked up a much need three points with a 4-0 win over fellow Leicestershire side Kirby Muxloe at the Community Stadium. Dan Forbes converted a Harry May cross after just four minutes to steady the Bees nerves and Callam Traynor added the second two minutes from the break with a downward header from a Fin Gray floated free-kick. The scoring wasn’t finished yet though as Harborough added a killer third goal right on half-time as Alex Morris found the back of the net after Aaron Preston had held the ball up nicely to set him up. Glen Giles kept the margin at three goals when he saved a Kirby penalty before Preston got a deserved goal to complete the rout in the last minute, finishing with a low strike after chesting the ball down.
Wellingborough Town were 2-0 winners over Boston Town at the Dog & Duck with both goals coming after the break. Shaun Wilkes and Justin Dowling with the all-important strikes.
The day’s other scheduled game was called off by the Leicestershire F.A as it was revealed Oadby Town had been suspended meaning their trip to Deeping Rangers will have to be played another day when all is resolved at county level.
FUTURE LIONS UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE-DIVISION ONE
Anstey Nomads remain top after a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Thrapston Town. First half goals from Ashley Day (16) and Corey Armeni (26) put the leaders in command and they added a third after the break thanks to an own goal.
The second against third clash saw the positions reversed by 5 o’clock in a ‘lively’ game at the Melton Sports Village, as Lutterworth Town came from behind against eight men to snatch the game late on. Melton Town had already had Leon Fray and Sam Wilson sent-off before Michael Reeve gave them the lead a minute before half time and then they lost another following Josh Hill’s dismissal as The Swifts were awarded a penalty ten minutes from time. Tendai Daire converted the spot-kick and then Jordan Small broke the remaining Melton player’s hearts with a winner for Lutterworth three minutes from time.
It was a bit more straight forward at the Linwood Playing Fields where Aylestone Park hammered bottom club Raunds Town 8-0. There was a hat-trick for debutant Paul Pallet, two apiece for Tom Hill and Zak Yusuf, with all these coming after Josh Unsworth had opened the scoring.
Lutterworth Athletic kept the pressure on the top but had to rely on two Barnes Gladman penalties (43 & 53) to beat Holwell Sports at Hall Park.
Sileby Rangers ended their recent poor run of results with a very respectable 1-1 draw at high-flying Blackstones. A twenty-five-yard free-kick from Dylan Hewitt gave the Northampton side the lead after 19 minutes, but player-boss Lee Clarke earned his side a point when he headed home from a corner on 39.
Irchester United and Harrowby United are both quite unpredictable this season, so The Romans 3-2 at Dickens Road isn’t too much of a surprise. Tom Gordon gave the visitors the lead after ten minutes and although Sam Grouse levelled things up for the Arrows, Alfie Taylor struck on 41 to give the Romans a half-time lead. Ryan Lovell extended the advantage on the hour and although Felix Hogg pulled one back with a far post header, Irchester hung on to take three impressive away points.
Long Buckby picked up their first win of the season in style with a 4-1 away triumph at out-of-sorts Huntingdon Town. The visitors were 4-0 up at the break with Jay Finlay (4), Ben Wilson (13), Sam Lockley (35) and Halim Halim (43) all on target and they even had the luxury of Lockley missing a penalty before their interval cuppa. The home side did get back into it a bit in a closer second half, but a Matt Wright goal three minutes from time is all they could muster. Second bottom Huntingdon have now conceded 27 goals in their last four games.
Bourne Town made it two on the spin with their first home league win of the season as they came from behind to beat Burton Park Wanderers 4-3 at Abbey Lawn. Zak Munton was the hat-trick hero for the Wakes with Reece Driscoll scoring their other goal. Bourne had taken the lead before Paul Caswell scored from a tight angle to make things level at the break. A Mason Thomas header took a deflection on the way in to give the visitors the lead but Bourne had taken their tally to four before Caswell poked home his second of the game late on.
Birstall United won 2-1 away at Rushden & Higham United with George Vernon and Jouel Potter outweighing Jack Dyson as far as goals were concerned.
Bugbrooke St Michaels and St Andrews drew 0-0 at The Sett in the day’s remaining game
