The Legacy of FC Peterborough (Compacted) – Revised May 2026
Founded in 2014, FC Peterborough emerged with a noble vision: to serve as a beacon of opportunity, empowerment and excellence for young people both on and off the pitch. From humble beginnings, the club has grown into a formidable institution, now home to over 450 players spanning age groups from Under 7s to adults, a true community driven force built on ambition, perseverance and unity.
Our journey began in the 2014/15 season with a single team competing at Fulbridge Recreational Ground, a public park that embodied our grassroots ethos. That inaugural campaign ended in remarkable fashion, with the team finishing league runners up and lifting the PDFL Chromasport League Shield.
Momentum continued in 2015/16 as the club secured another second place finish in PDFL Division Four and narrowly missed glory in the PFA Minor Cup Final. The 2016/17 season brought further progress: runners up in Division Three, finalists in the PFA Junior Cup and the introduction of our Veterans team, expanding the FC Peterborough legacy across generations.
The 2017/18 campaign saw the club rise into Division Two, with both the First Team and Reserves earning promotion, clear evidence of the growing strength and depth within the club. In 2018, leadership of the First Team transitioned to Ahmed Mustafa, under whose guidance the side competed strongly in Division One, narrowly missing out on further promotion.
The COVID-19-affected 2020/21 season marked another managerial transition, with Imtiaz Ali taking charge of the First Team.
The following year brought further evolution as Shahzad Hamid was appointed First Team manager, while Faizal Ur Rehman assumed responsibility for the Reserves, leading them through the challenges of Division Three. A major milestone arrived when the club moved from Fulbridge Road to the Focus Centre on Chestnut Avenue, formerly home to Peterborough Northern Star. Rich in local footballing history, the venue provided the platform for FC Peterborough’s ambitions to continue growing.
The 2022/23 season etched itself into the club’s history. Sitting top of the PDFL Premier Division at the winter break, the team’s outstanding campaign ultimately secured promotion to Step 6, a monumental achievement in the club’s journey.
Our debut season in the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League Division 1 North in 2023/24 ended with a highly respectable 11th place finish out of 21 teams, firmly establishing FC Peterborough at this new level and creating unforgettable memories for all who proudly wore the green shirt.
Crowning a decade of relentless dedication, FC Peterborough was honoured with a Civic Award for Sport by Peterborough City Council, recognition of the club’s profound impact within the local community.
In the 2024/25 campaign, the club amassed an impressive 70 points, its highest-ever tally at that level, missing out on the playoffs by just two points. Though disappointing, the season reflected undeniable progress and resilience, setting the stage for an even stronger push the following year.
The 2025/26 season arrived with belief, ambition and a sense of unfinished business. Promotion was the target and the team rose to the challenge in spectacular fashion. After a strong start, the squad overcame difficult moments and finished the campaign in outstanding form, collecting 75 points and securing a fourth place finish to book a place in the playoffs. Missing out on a home semi final by a single point only fuelled the team’s determination. Travelling away to third-placed Framlingham, FC Peterborough produced a sensational performance to win 5–1 and reach the playoff final. Awaiting them at the Millfield AutoParts Stadium were old rivals Stanway Pegasus, with a record crowd of 745 supporters creating an unforgettable atmosphere. Backed by the community, the team delivered when it mattered most, producing a superb 3–0 victory to be crowned Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League Division One North Play-Off Winners 2025/26 and promotion to Step 5 of the footballing pyramid, a defining moment in the club’s history.
At the heart of this extraordinary journey stand nine visionary founders: Arif Aziz, Hamad Javed, Imtiaz Ali, Kamran Khan, Mohammed Ashraf, Nadeem Parvez, Raheel Saghir, Shahzad Hamid and Younes Tajer. Together, they laid the foundations of a dream, nurtured it with tireless commitment and transformed it into a living, breathing legacy.
This is FC Peterborough. Better, Together.
