The National League System rules for promotion and relegation and relegation for this season have been announced.  For the United Counties League the following applies:

Premier Divisions North and South

Providing the minimum promotion criteria are met, the teams that finish in first place in these two divisions will be promoted to Step Four.

The second-placed team in each of these divisions will be entitled to at least an away play-off game against a team finishing third or fourth bottom of a Step Four division.  Due to vacancies at Step Four some second-placed teams in Step Five divisions (ranked by PPG) may be automatically promoted without taking part in a play-off.

The bottom two teams in each of the UCL Premier Divisions will be relegated to Step Six (not necessarily UCL Division One).  Clubs finishing bottom will not be reprieved even if there are vacancies in the system.

Division One

Providing the minimum promotion criteria are met, the team that wins the Division will be promoted to Step Five.  The next four teams will qualify for a play-off competition for a second promotion place.  These play-offs will commence at the end of the normal playing season and finish no later than 15 May 2022.

The bottom three teams in UCL Division One will be relegated if there are sufficient applicants from the regional leagues with appropriate ground criteria and final league positions.
